In the bilingual Advertissements upon the Compositions following / Auertimento sopra le seguenti musiche it is specified that these diminutions can be performed either by a bass singer or a «Violl» / «Viola».
Of the 4-part madrigal by Cipriano de Rore only one part - a basso seguente - is given.
The diminutions develop around this basso seguente, thus also touching the tenor and alto parts of the madrigal. The piece can therefore be classified as 'bastarda' genre even though the 'viola bastarda' is not mentioned.
