The separate parts are labelled: Traverso ou Violino Primo; Traverso ou Violino Secondo; Basso ; there is no part for a viole , as promised by the title. The most probable hypothesis – because it better fits the syntax of the title and the indications on the separate parts – is therefore that viole stands for violin; however, it cannot be ruled out that the author wanted to refer to the treble viol.
