On all the separate parts the bassoon is indicated as the obbligato bass instrument, only that part itself calls for the viola da gamba. The part of the short piece has a few passages that differ from the basso continuo with nothing instrumentally idiomatic except for a single double string at b. 2 that would incline for viola da gamba rather than bassoon.
