Abel, Carl Friedrich
2 Trios, in F major and in G major, for violin, violoncello and basso continuo, AbelWV C35 and C36 (ZadA 5:1-2; WKO deest)
in
Les Suites des trois premières trios […] pour le violon, violoncello, et basso, nn. IV and V.
[London, Longman, Lukey & Co.]
AUS-NLwm (incomplete), GB-Ckc (incomplete)
The edition calls for violin and violoncello, but from documents relating to a lawsuit filed by Abel against the editors we know that 10 years before he composed two of them “for a Flute, Viol di gamba and a Bass”.
The third Trio in this edition is copied from Abel’s trios op. IX, n. 5, as well as those in the first part of trios edited by Longman and Luckey (Three Trios, RISM A/1 A 128).
Only the parts for violoncello (viola da gamba) and for figured bass survive.
