The edition contains 2 sonatas for violin, violoncello and basso continuo (no. X and XI). The obligato bass part is labelled «Violoncello» and is characterised by some cello idiomatic chords and arpeggios, leaving no doubt on the intention of the composer, a cellist himself. But in an advertisement of 1712, repeated as late as in 1735, Le Cène advertises the collection with these words: «Opera seconda, ou il y a trois [sic] Sonates à un Violon, une Basse de Viole ou de Violon et une Basse Continue», thus also admitting a performance on the viola da gamba.
