Finger, Gottfried (Godfrey) (attributed)
Intrada in A minor for 2 violette (RI 172)
D-SÜN ms. 12 n° [21]
Güntersberg
«Violetta» is indicated only in the upper part, but both parts are written in treble clef. The term «violetta» is too generic to permit a certain identification of the instrument, but the treble viol seems to be the best candidate: The Intrada is found in a manuscript of viol music, and the range and a few chords are perfectly suited to the treble viol. The suggestion by Rawson of a viola d’amore is therefore less convincing.
The manuscript is anonymous; the composer has been identified thanks to some concordances with manuscripts in GB-Ob (Flassig-1998).
