Although the title page names the viol with apparent reference to the entire work, an independent part for the viol is found only in this first piece, Concerto.
The separate part for the solo bass instrument of this sonata does not ask for the viol explicitly, but the indication in the title and the overall range of the part are sufficient to make it clear that the viol is intended.
The two upper part books bear the indications «Violino primo» and «Violino secondo»; the range of the parts of this Concerto excludes the replacement by the flutes suggested in the title page.
