notes
The piece consists of two movements: an introduction for two treble instruments and b. c. and the Boutade itself for one violin and b. c. Although it is not entirely clear which part is meant for the “viole” referred to in the title, it must be assumed that the viol –soprano or bass – is intended as an alternative to the violin. It is less likely that the “viole” simply indicates the use of a viola da gamba as an accompanying instrument.
