Daniel Holst was a lutenist but also a violist (see O. Nielsen, Kjöbenhavns Historie og Beskrivelse. vol. Kjöbenhavn i Aarene 1660-1699 p. 337); these pieces could therefore be transcriptions of pieces for lute, but also originally dedicated to the viola da gamba.
