in
The compleat musick-master: being plain, easie and familiar rules for singing and playing on the most useful instruments now in vogue, viz violin, flute, haut-boy, bass-viol, treble-viol, tenor-viol […], pp. 31, 33-36
London, William Pearson
Both the first edition (1704/1705 circa) and the second edition (date unknown) are lost. Only the third edition (The third Edition, with Additions, 1722) is preserved.
No author is mentioned on the title page of this publication, but the preface is signed «TB» (probably T[homas] B[rowne]). He is therefore certainly the author of the treatise but not of the pieces of music included. In fact, he himself writes in the same preface that they are «Composed by the greatest Members».
One more piece in this publication is concordant with the Ballet by N. Hotman (see).
