Schenck Johan (Schenk; Johann, Jean)
9 movements for two violas da gamba (3 in G major, 6 in C major)
N-Tu XA HA Mus 1:1 (partbook of viol I only, viol II missing; in tablature)
N-Tu XA HA Mus 1:2 (partbooks Primo and Secondo; in tablature)
PRB Productions (Goy)
The ms. 1:1 bears the title N° 1 | Nodebog til Viola da Gamba. The two partbooks of ms. 1:2 bear the titles N° 1 | Primo Autor | Johan Schench | A° 1716 d[en] 28. Septemb[er] and N° 1 | Secundo. Autor | Johan Scench | A° 1716 d[en] 28. Septemb[er].
In both ms. these 9 movements are interspersed with others published in Nymphe di Rheno . The ms. 1:1 contains moreover pieces by August Kühnel, published in his Sonate ô partite.
The manuscripts are written in tablature.
The hypothesis that these were copies from Schenck's Giardino Armonico, formulated when that work was lost, has been disproved by its discovery.
