The overall range (d-e’’) and some chords of all the parts as a whole composed by Marc’Antonio Ziani for viola da gamba suggest that he had an alto-tenor viol in mind, even if their execution is not impossible on a bass viol. The range of the viol in this Laudate is g-e’’. The viola da gamba has an important solo part and is the only solo instrument.
