The overall range (d-e’’) and some chords of all the parts as a whole composed by Marc’Antonio Ziani for viola da gamba suggest that he had an alto-tenor viol in mind, even if their execution is not impossible on a bass viol.
Some double stops in the parts of this opera, inexecutable on both a D and a G viol, should be due to distraction.
