notes
The viola da gamba is not explicitly requested, but can be deduced from some recurrent chords and the fingerings on f. 6v. The total range of the pieces (E-b’) points towards a bass viol.
A rest of 3 measures at the beginning of an Andante (f. 4v) and other evidences make it clear that at least one more part (probably a bass) is missing in some, if not all, pieces.
On f. 6v some fingerings, bowings and trills are marked; the signs for bowings and trills are those of the french viol school.
The anonymous scribe is certainly German.
