Part of the manuscripts is in staff notation, the other in tablature.
By far the most widespread piece in these sources consists of a series of variations on a theme (called in some English sources “Skolding wife” or “Schoole ground”), sometimes entitled “Ballet”, “Prelude” or “Allemande”. In only two sources (PL-Wtm Krakow and S-SK Mörner) the piece is explicitly attributed to Hotman, but in many other manuscripts it is found close to others by the same author.
