Although the title page names the viol with apparent reference to the entire work, an independent part for the viol is found only in this Sonata V.
The separate part for the solo bass instrument of this sonata does not ask for the viol explicitly, but the indication in the title and the overall range of the part are sufficient to make it clear that the viol is intended.
The two upper parts bear both the indication «Violino Solo»; the range of the parts exclude the replacement by the flute suggested in the title page.
