Although the title page names the viol with apparent reference to the entire work, an independent part for «Viole seule» is found only in this Sonata IIII.
The three upper parts of this sonata explicitly call for «Flûte Seule», «Violon Seul» and «Viole Seule», but given the title of the work and the label of the first part book («Violino Primo»), the substitution of flute for violin was certainly conceded. An instrumentation with the two flûtes traversières of the title is also conceivable, at least for some of the movements; the second part has only a few notes below the range of the flute.
